Chances are, you’re already familiar with Herringbone, named after the fish skeleton it resembles. This classic pattern has deep roots, found first in ancient Rome where it was engineered as an ultra-stable road-paving system. Over time, the broken zig-zag of overlapping lines or rectangles pattern that defines Herringbone found its way into textiles, flooring and really all aspects of the decorative arts.
The simple geometric repeat makes Herringbone a great pattern, printed or woven, the stepped rectangles can easily repeat vertically or horizontally. Over time, the pattern has become closely associated with tightly-woven Irish wools and tweeds. Supersized Herringbone as a print for clothing or home furnishings can be quite striking- we certainly find it a hit for window-dressings! We offer Herringbone in three readymade curtains as well as custom options.
Our NEW Chatham lined curtain combines a timeless Herringbone pattern with a light sheen in dappled grey. This thick drape blocks most of the light and holds its own in a room of sophisticated furnishings. Accessorized with splashes of black, mustard and gold, Chatham is perfect for anyone who wants a formal look with a modern sensibility. Available in readymade pencil pleat curtains and custom 12 Working Day* made to order drapes and Roman Blinds.
For a lighter-weight take on Herringbone, try Corban. Combining a nearly sheer facing fabric with a full lining, Corban gives you a custom made feel in a ready to hang curtain. The subtle pattern can be styled modern and casual. Great in an off-white environment, pair Corban with simple black or white accessories.
If it’s a true sheer you’re after, take a look at Drift. A soft-grey pattern on a field of snowy white, Drift is the perfect way to add depth to a room. The scale of print combined with the low-contrast colour-scheme makes Drift feel almost texturual, adding interest without pulling focus.
Of course, Herringbone still holds court for the floor and there are loads of easy to install options that give you a great look. We love the Art Select Karndean range from Carpet Court. Available in 3 colours, view the range here
