1. What type of heading do I want?

Pencil Pleat

Pencil pleat curtains offer a classic, relaxed look that suits a variety of interiors. An affordable and versatile option, they can be easily hung on either a track or a rod, making them a practical choice for everyday living.

Single Pleat

Single pleat curtains offer a refined, modern finish that suits a wide range of interiors. Each pleat is fixed and evenly spaced along the top of the curtain, tailored precisely to fit your track width for a clean, made-to-measure appearance.

This style is ideal where wall space is limited, as it allows for compact stacking when open. Suitable for all fabric weights, the single pleat combines understated elegance with everyday functionality.

cs-guide-curtains-double-pleat-2-The Interiors Group

Double Pleat

Double pleat curtains offer a timeless, structured look with added fullness and softness. This pleat style is known for its elegant drape and works well with most fabrics, particularly light to medium weights. Whether your fabric is plain or patterned, the double pleat delivers a balanced and refined appearance.

Ideal for use on both tracks and rods, it also pairs perfectly with a double-track setup, allowing you to layer a sheer for daytime privacy and a lined curtain behind for insulation and night-time comfort.

cs-guide-curtains-triple-pleat-The Interiors Group

Triple Pleat

The triple pleat is a classic curtain heading known for its tailored structure and generous fullness. Ideal for formal spaces like lounges, dining rooms, and master bedrooms, this style adds a refined, sophisticated finish to any room.

Best suited to lightweight fabrics. Particularly sheers or subtly patterned materials, triple pleat curtains create a soft, elegant drape. Due to their fullness, they are not suitable for heavy fabrics such as velvet.

Please note: Triple pleat curtains are only available using our bespoke fabric range.

cs-guide-curtains-inverted-pleat-2-The Interiors Group

Inverted Pleat

The inverted pleat offers a modern alternative to traditional curtain headings. With the pleats neatly folded to the back of the curtain, this style creates a flat, tailored front - perfect for showcasing plain or textured fabrics without visual interruption.

This pleat style delivers a sleek, architectural look that suits contemporary interiors. While it offers a minimalist finish, it does come with a larger stack back compared to other pleats, so it’s best suited to spaces where this is not a concern.

For the best result and improved stacking, inverted pleat curtains are recommended to be hung under a rod. A stylish, understated choice for those seeking a clean and modern aesthetic.

cs-guide-curtains-mini-inverted-pleat-The Interiors Group

Mini Inverted Pleat

The mini inverted pleat is a compact, streamlined curtain heading, most commonly used for linings on the rear track of a double-track setup. Its clean finish and minimal fabric use make it an ideal choice for budget-conscious projects without sacrificing quality or appearance.

This pleat style is designed to sit neatly behind a front curtain, allowing both layers to operate smoothly while maintaining a tidy, layered look. Perfect for linings, sheers, or lightweight fabrics, the mini inverted pleat is a smart and functional solution for everyday living.

Pleat To Stripe/ Pattern

For those looking to highlight bold stripes or symmetrical patterns, pleating to stripe or pattern is a refined technique that enhances the visual impact of your chosen fabric. By carefully aligning the pleats with the fabric's design, this method creates a balanced and intentional look.

Pleat to Stripe is particularly effective with wide, evenly spaced stripes. It allows the pattern to flow consistently across the curtain, offering a clean, designer-style finish. This option works especially well with Single, Inverted, or Double Pleats and requires slightly more fabric to ensure proper placement.

Pleat to Pattern is ideal for fabrics with symmetrical or repeating designs. By aligning the pleats with key elements of the pattern, it creates a cohesive and elegant appearance. We recommend using Single or Double Pleats for this technique to achieve the best results.

S-Wave Pleat

The S-Wave pleat offers a simple yet elegant wave-like appearance, creating smooth, flowing folds that add a modern touch to any window treatment.

Designed for use with both tracks and rods, the S-Wave pleat requires generous stacking space due to its full, continuous folds. It uses approximately twice the fabric fullness, resulting in a luxurious, flowy drape that enhances contemporary interiors.

heading---eyelet-The Interiors Group

Eyelet Pleat

The eyelet pleat design creates soft, natural folds that drape beautifully, offering a smooth, crease-free finish. This style allows the curtains to hang elegantly with gentle pleats formed by metal eyelets at the top.

Please note, eyelet pleats are not suitable for sheer or loosely woven fabrics, as these materials may fray around the eyelets and deteriorate quickly.

Lined Curtains

A Refined Balance of Style and Function

Lined curtains pair beautiful designer fabrics with an integrated lining, delivering both aesthetic appeal and practical performance. The lining is typically a soft polyester, sewn directly to the back of the main fabric, which may feature a subtle linen texture, bold pattern, or refined weave. This construction helps to protect the outer fabric while improving the curtain's structure and drape.

The pocket of air between the two layers adds a valuable layer of insulation, helping to moderate indoor temperatures throughout the year. When combined with a heavier outer fabric, this insulating effect is even more effective, contributing to energy efficiency and comfort.

Lined curtains also offer a softer feel and more flowy drape than coated fabrics, creating a relaxed yet tailored look that suits both classic and contemporary interiors. They are an excellent choice for those who want luxurious style without compromising on function.

Thermal Curtains

Insulation That Works All Year Round

Thermal curtains are designed to help regulate indoor temperatures by adding an effective layer of insulation between your windows and your living space. Their design helps reduce the transfer of heat in and out of the home, keeping warmth in during winter and reflecting excess sunlight during summer.

These curtains are typically constructed with a built-in thermal lining - often an acrylic foam layer between two or more fabric layers. This structure acts as a thermal barrier, helping to block out cold draughts and reduce solar heat gain. The result is a more stable indoor climate, improved energy efficiency, and less reliance on heating and cooling systems.

By limiting airflow around window areas, thermal curtains contribute to a quieter, more comfortable living environment and can help lower energy bills over time. They’re particularly well suited for bedrooms, lounges, and other spaces where temperature control and comfort are key.

Please note: thermal curtains are not machine washable due to the nature of their layered construction.

Blockout Curtains

Total Darkness & Added Insulation

Blockout curtains are specially designed to significantly reduce the amount of natural light entering a room, making them ideal for creating complete darkness when needed. Whether you're a shift worker needing restful sleep during the day, setting up a nursery, or creating the perfect home theatre environment, blockout curtains offer reliable light control and enhanced comfort at any hour.

These curtains go beyond just darkening a space. Their thick, coated fabric, blockout curtains also help regulate indoor temperatures, keeping your home cooler in summer and warmer in winter. They provide additional acoustic benefits as well, softening external noise for a quieter, more peaceful interior.

Performance is driven by a three-pass thermal coating applied to the back of the curtain fabric. This multilayered system includes a dense middle layer that blocks sunlight, while the outer layers contribute to insulation and durability.

Triple Weave Curtains

The Best All-Rounder for Everyday Living

Triple-weave thermal curtains are a practical and stylish solution for everyday comfort. Made with three layers of fabric - including a light-blocking yarn woven between two decorative layers. This offer an excellent combination of insulation, breathability, and softness without the weight or stiffness of traditional blockout curtains.

These curtains are naturally mould-resistant, making them particularly well-suited to humid or coastal environments. They're also the only ready-made curtain option that’s machine washable, a feature especially popular with rental property owners for its convenience and ease of care.

Because triple-weave thermal curtains don’t require a separate lining, they offer a streamlined, low-maintenance option that’s easy to install and manage. Their well-balanced performance makes them one of the most versatile curtain types for everyday living.

Sheer Curtains

Light Filtering Elegance for Every Room

Sheer curtains are a timeless window furnishing that soften incoming light, provide day-time privacy, and add a sense of airiness to any space. Whether you prefer a subtle, understated look or a more styled feature, there’s a sheer option to suit your needs.

Traditional Sheers are typically installed inside the window frame and are crafted from classic sheer fabrics. These sheers gently filter natural light and provide effective daytime privacy while maintaining an open, airy feel. They’re ideal for living areas, dining rooms, or anywhere you want soft light without compromising visibility to the outdoors.

Decorative Sheers are designed to stand out. Fitted to double tracks with a separate lining on the rear track, they offer both function and flair. During the day, the sheer layer diffuses sunlight and provides privacy, while the added lining delivers warmth and complete privacy in the evening. This layered setup also helps with insulation, making decorative sheers a stylish and practical solution for bedrooms and formal living spaces.

Whether you’re looking to create a minimalist finish or a layered designer look, sheer curtains offer flexibility, elegance, and everyday comfort.

3. What type of floor finish do I want?

The way curtains finish at the floor plays a crucial role in both the overall look and performance. A well-considered drape enhances the aesthetic appeal while also contributing to insulation and energy efficiency - something that matters to every customer.

cs-cabo-linen-lifestyle-2048x1536-The Interiors Group

Just on the floor

Also known as “kissing the floor,” this finish sees the curtains ending just above the floor - typically around 5mm. It creates a clean, tailored look without pooling. However, this style requires a level floor to achieve a consistent appearance, as even minor variations can affect the final result.

cs-guide-curtains-The Interiors Group

Breaking or leaning on the floor

Known as “breaking” or “leaning” on the floor, this style features curtains that slightly touch the floor - typically with a 10–20mm allowance. It creates a relaxed, elegant look and works especially well with soft, floaty fabrics like polyester. This finish offers a more casual feel while still appearing thoughtfully styled.

cs-flaxton-silver-lifestyle-2048x1536-The Interiors Group

Touching the floor

This finish allows the curtains to gently rest on the floor, creating a tailored and polished look. It’s a versatile option that offers a clean aesthetic while also helping to disguise minor floor level variations. Ideal for achieving a balanced, well-finished appearance in any space.

cs-beaumonde-drew-lifestyle-2048x1536-The Interiors Group

Puddling

This style features an extra 30–50mm of fabric resting on the floor, creating a luxurious, relaxed effect. Puddling is especially recommended for linen or linen-blend fabrics, as these natural fibres are prone to expanding and contracting with seasonal changes. It offers a soft, romantic finish that suits both classic and contemporary interiors.
