What are Lined Curtains?
Lined curtains offer added benefits beyond style—they enhance insulation, improve light control, and protect fabric from fading. Whether paired with sheers or blockout fabric, linings help curtains hang beautifully while boosting comfort and energy efficiency in your home.
Lined curtains have an added lining layer on the back of the curtain which can be attached to the curtain or can be hung on a separate track behind the curtain.
Lining is a cost-effective addition to help protect your curtain fabric, while providing some added insulation for the home (even more so if they are thermally lined). Lined curtains provide added privacy, making it harder to see through and into the window, especially at night. They are also a great option for adding structure to your curtains and creating a nicer drape. Protecting your furniture from sun damage is another way that lined curtains have an advantage over unlined curtains. At Curtain Studio, we have readymade lined curtains and attachable linings as well as custom lined curtains, with options to suit all budgets and tastes.
Readymade:
Our readymade range of lined curtains have something to suit all needs, from draping styles, different fabric and texture styles. The separate polyester lining of our readymade lined curtains creates a custom look, protects the curtain fabric and adds an extra layer of insulation. If your current curtains are unlined, we also have attachable linings available, which clip onto the back of your curtains to give you all of the added benefits of a lined curtain.
Custom Range:
We have a huge range of custom fabrics which can all be lined for insulation, protection and added privacy. Our range includes sheers, light, dark and printed fabrics in a range of textures and different drape styles. Learn how to choose the custom lining that is right for you.
Will My Custom Curtains Need Lining?
With any of our drapery fabric, lining is recommended, except for our triple-weave fabric which is self-lined. Our sheers pair nicely with a lining if you want added privacy and insultation. Not all curtains need lining, however it will help to protect the fabric in any case and extend the life of your curtains.
Design Tip:
Opt for a double track, which allows you to hang a sheer for daylight privacy and a lining curtain on the back for insulation.

Do Lined Curtains Block Out Light?
Different linings offer different levels of light-filtering, however our triple-weave and 3-pass linings are the best for filtering light and keeping the sun out.
Our custom and readymade lined curtains come in a variety of different heading styles, to suit any room in the home and any décor.
